CHITREC’s Abel Kho, MD and his team of researchers at Northwestern University are collaborating with other Chicago area institutions to address the lack of scientific evidence needed to support healthcare decisions made by patients and their doctors.
They are creating the Chicago Area Patient Centered Outcomes Research Network (CAPriCORN), a city-wide system of electronic health record sharing. CAPriCORN received its funding from the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) and supports a national research infrastructure to advance the use of electronic health data in research studies. The objectives over the next 18 months are to build a research network, establish technical specification for data standardization, and engage patients in research.
