Internships

The CHITREC Internship Program offers a comprehensive and pragmatic view into the dynamic world of health information technology. At CHITREC, we believe meaningful use of electronic health records (EHRs) will be a transformative force to improve the quality, safety and value of health care for all Chicagoans.  As a CHITREC intern, you would be part of making that change happen.  Interns are challenged with real project experience and introduced to the inner workings of a start-up minded organization.

Along with a specific project and overall experience with the organization, CHITREC ensures that internships are supportive and inclusive for individual growth.  Team education and one-on-one mentoring are key to the success of the program.

CHITREC is based on Collaboration, Trust, Leadership, Service and Community. We seek individuals with the same passion and ambition to drive change now and help shape the future of the health IT workforce.

Program Highlights

CHITREC internships feature high impact projects that provide tangible and practical experience.  Internships vary, but they begin with a 3 month period that may continue for another 3 months based on project needs and performance.  Work schedules are flexible, but are usually 20 to 40 hours per week.

Eligibility

CHITREC internships offer experiences for individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and education. We are seeking smart, motivated and passionate people who have a genuine desire to learn and grow in the health IT arena. Applicants should be comfortable using a computer for daily tasks and learning about various forms of IT, have experience or education in health care and/or IT, and enjoy working with others and sharing ideas with a team.

CHITREC internships are conducted during regular business hours (Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm) at the CHITREC office or partner organization’s office.  We are unable to accommodate those individuals who only have evening and weekend availability.

CHITREC offers paid internships that are $10/hour. If you are an undergraduate or graduate student who is interested in receiving college credit, CHITREC offers unpaid internships that can be arranged with your school. All applicants must be able to work legally in the United States.
